Does Posting Time Really Matter?

Does your content’s engagement matter to you? We’re going to go with yes. Then, yes, posting time does matter, and it directly affects your content performance. You can’t show up when your audience isn’t online and expect your engagement to skyrocket.

You can (and should) work smarter and not harder by knowing exactly when your audience is online and ready to consume your content.

How Do I Find the Best Time For My Brand?

Find the best posting times based on day, time zone, audience, and industry.

We’re about to tell you the global standard for best posting times, but you should note that while these are suggested times based on analyzed data from experts, it doesn’t mean it’s gospel for your brand. Here are a few factors you can consider when looking for YOUR best time to post:

Day of the Week

Check insights for peak engagement days, typically Tuesday and Wednesday.

Certain days of the week produce better engagement than others. You might post at the same time on a Monday and  Wednesday, but guaranteed, one day will perform better than the other. If you’re ever curious as to which days might work best for you to post, you can head to your Instagram insights, click on total followers, and scroll all the way down to view the times your audience is the most active.

✨ Tuesday and Wednesday are the best days to post on Instagram for the highest engagement, and Saturday and Sunday are the worst!

Time Zone

Post according to your audience’s time zone for better engagement.

If your target audience is localized in one time zone, it’s crucial that you use posting times calculated for that time zone - even if it isn’t yours!

Pro tip: Instagram will use the time zone that your smartphone is set in to calculate your data.

You’re most likely to have the most consistent levels of engagement on Instagram Monday-Friday between 10am-3pm in your time zone.

Audience Demographics

Use insights to post when your followers, based on age, are most active.

Instagram is most used by people between the ages of 18-34, so your “suggested times” are based on people in that age demographic. If your Instagram insights show you that the age range of your followers is older than that “average” demographic, the most active posting times suggested by the platform might not be accurate for you.

This is where trial and error will become your best friend. You can actively post at times outside of the suggested range to see if the content receives higher engagement.

Industry

Every industry has a different “best time” to post on Instagram for the highest engagement. Healthcare workers are online at different times than e-commerce brands, and stay-at-home moms are active at different times than educators. If your product or service targets a specific industry or niche, it’s important to tailor your posting times to when they will be online to get the best engagement on Instagram.

Post at times that align with your industry’s audience activity.
