A Social Media Intern’s Day In the Life
Spoiler Alert 🚨It’s awesome.
So, you want the tea on what it’s really like being a social media intern? Are you sure? You may not be ready for the truth…
I’m going to hold your hand when I say this. I love it!
When I started my internship at Scott Social, I knew I was in for an adventure. But, I didn’t really realize just how great it would be. Now, my case is a little different. I’m a graphic designer with zero marketing experience (especially in social media). But getting into the world of social media marketing? A whole different ball game.
Here’s a glimpse into what it’s like to be a social media intern at Scott Social.
Cracking the Client Code
First things first—I have become some kind of a mind reader. Not literally, but close. To create authentic and engaging social media content, you have to understand your client’s voice, audience, and vibe.
This usually means diving into their brand story like an FBI agent. Why did they start their business? What do their followers care about? What’s their tone? Are they the type to say, “Wow, this is amazing! 🔥” or “OMG, you slayed! 🤩” (both are valid, by the way.)
I’ve spent hours scrolling Instagram, seeing what people are into, and coming up with posts they’d truly love. I even found myself learning way more about certain industries than I ever thought possible. Did I know there were hashtags for cats in cardboard boxes? No. But I do now!
Writing for the Other Marketing Buffs
Another part of my day as a social media intern is whipping up blog articles. One of my favorites was breaking down why some brands absolutely crush it on social media. Spoiler alert! It’s not just about pretty pictures. It’s about personality.
And here’s the thing, those same traits don’t just apply to social media. They’re just as essential for any brand’s online presence, including blog articles! This is where the visual side of things really comes into play.
A killer blog isn’t successful with words alone. You have to bring the right visuals. Clean layouts, awesome graphics, and some humor can turn a boring blog into something people actually want to share.
Research Rabbit Holes
Ever heard of eco-friendly baby wipes that double as compostable napkins? Or the rising demand for pet-friendly landscaping turf? Me neither. Until now.
Part of being a social media intern (and marketer in general) is exploring niches you’ve probably never heard of.
Researching these niches isn’t just fascinating. It’s critical for building a tailored social media strategy. I’ve spent afternoons deep in the corners of TikTok and Instagram, discovering what makes people stop scrolling, laugh, or double-tap.
Strategy >>>
Engagement and growth are great, but they’re only half the battle. Behind every successful social media campaign is a team crafting a carefully planned strategy. It’s not just about jumping on trends. You need to know what your audience wants and how to deliver it.
As a social media intern, I develop strategies that balance creativity with purpose, making every post part of the plan. Seriously, there’s a method to the madness. And when you get the strategy right, the engagement and growth follow naturally.
It Takes a Village
Here’s the big secret: social media success isn’t a one-person show. It takes a village to keep the ideas fresh, the posts on time, and the engagement flowing. The Scott Social team is a dream squad of creatives and strategists who make the magic happen. From brainstorming to execution, they’ve been my guiding stars.
That’s what makes Scott Social such an amazing place to learn and grow for a social media intern. The support and creativity here are unmatched, and I’m lucky to be part of it.
